About us

Fifty Eight partners with organisations and individuals throughout the value chain to achieve work that enhances quality of life, free from exploitation.

What drives us to make a difference

Our vision is simple. Good work for people everywhere.

At the core of Fifty Eight is the ambition to help business align with its primary purpose in society: to provide products and services that are good for people.

Fifty Eight reinvests profits into SMEs and organisations that are committed to tackling the root causes of modern slavery through job creation and education.

We are keenly aware of the numerous organisations there are out there, offering support and advice to companies. Our aim is not to be another competing voice but to find, share and, where necessary, create practical solutions that build on best practice wherever we see it. To be an effective voice in bringing people, ideas and actions together to solve the problem of modern slavery. We want to be involved in work that brings measurable, significant and lasting change to the lives of people at all levels of the value chain.

We are proud to be based in the North West of the UK: with its rich heritage of birthing innovative technology to progress industrialisation and trade. A region that played a central role in the creation and abolition of the historic transatlantic slave trade, as well as the struggle to win rights for workers at home.

We feel privileged to be part of the thriving business community in Liverpool, and to be a part of it’s evolving identity as a city determined to confront, learn from and build upon its past.

The story

Fifty Eight was inspired by a trip around Asia in 2011 taken by Quintin and Angela Lake. They were struck by the positive impact a good business model can bring to people and communities . Workplaces that improve the quality of life for everyone connected to them – from customers, to staff, to their supply chain.

On their return to the UK, they set to work on gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to work with companies internationally. They launched Fifty Eight in September 2014.

The name Fifty Eight comes from a chapter in the Old Testament book of Isaiah which challenges us to ensure our workplaces and communities are free from exploitation and injustice.
